Tamil Nadu Government Sets Up More Than 300 Breastfeeding Rooms in Public Places
Tamil Nadu inaugurated over 300 breastfeeding rooms in public spots across the province. The Chennai Mofussil Bus Terminus (CMBT) is one such place where the government has set up a separate enclosure for lactating mothers.
"The Chennai Mofussil Bus Terminus (CMBT) has given a centralized air-conditioned room which consists about eight compartments where eight mothers can sit and feed at a time. We are also providing nurses for assistance who will be in a round of 24x7 in a shift system," said a pediatrician, Doctor S. Balasubramanian.

The initiative has brought smiles to the faces of breastfeeding mothers. "This is really useful for me. Usually I had to feed him in public before sending him to a day care center. This initiative is really helpful to me," said a woman at the breastfeeding room.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa had last month announced the setting up of exclusive rooms for lactating mothers, keeping in mind the difficulties faced by them at public places. The initiative syncs with World Breastfeeding Week.
