New Capsule Touted to Reduce Belly Fat by 20 Percent

Researchers at Ohio University have developed a new capsule that can reduce your belly fat by as much as 20 percent.

The researchers injected a tiny capsule that contained heat generating cells into the stomach of laboratory mice and found that the cells converted the fat cells in the abdomen into thermogenic cells which were then used to generate heat. The researchers said that though the mice managed to regain some of the lost weight, there was no dramatic increase of weight gain even when the mice were placed on a high fat diet.

Writing in the report, which has been published in the journal Biomaterials, the researchers said that the capsule could be used to reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes, heart disease and cancer by burning off excess visceral fat surrounding the organs.

"With a very small number of cells, the effect of the injection of this capsule was more pronounced at the beginning, when the mice dramatically lost about 10 percent of their weight. They gained back some weight after that. But then we started to look at how much visceral fat was present, and we saw about a 20 percent reduction in those lipids", lead researcher Ouliana Ziouzenkova said.
