A 46 year-old-man, who is suffering from “locked-in syndrome” is seeking legal recourse from the High Court to ask his doctors to help him die.

“It is extremely important to me that I feel able to control when and how I die,” he said in extracts of court statements that were accessed by the Daily Telegraph. “As is no doubt appreciated, almost every other aspect of my life is now out of my control and I want, at least, to be able to control my death.”
He is asking the court to ensure that doctors who assist in his death will not be prosecuted. Usually, assisted suicide has a 14-year jail sentence. Martin was able to get his statement written by staring at the letters on a computer screen.
Martin wants help to either go to the Dignitas suicide clinic in Switzerland or die by not taking in any food or drink. The case is to be heard in the High Court next month.
