Malaria has claimed 49 lives and affected 20,000 people in West Bengal's Dooars area bordering Assam and Bhutan, RSP member Nirmal Das told the West Bengal Assembly today.
Of the 20,000 affected, 35 per cent had been diagnosed as those of malignant malaria, Das said during mention hour.Stating that a medical team recently visited the area, he said that it was far from adequate. Besides, there was no hospital infrastucture or blood test facilities.
Das urged the government to take immediate measures to curb the spread of the disease.
