Kashmir's Health Care Facilities Hit

by Rathi Manohar on Jul 6 2010 11:16 AM

Kashmir
Healthcare facilities in Kashmir have been badly affected because of the curfew that had to be enforced by the disturbances in the Valley.
The curfew has led to closure of many services, including banking, which has left many people, especially hospital patients, in the lurch.

"Due to this strike we are in great difficulty. Some don't get food, medicines, money," said Shabir Ahmad, a patient.

The patients have also complained about the non-availability of paramedical services due to the shutdown.

"Patients who come from remote places, they are facing transport problems. Our ambulances travel only within Municipal limited area," said Qaisar Ahmad, Medical Superintendent of G B Pant Hospital in Srinagar.

The situation in the valley has been tense over the past few weeks due to repeated clashes between the protestors who indulge in stone- throwing and the security forces.
