Inspirational Blind Teacher Educates Bihar's Handicapped Children Free of Cost

Destitute and handicapped children in Bihar's Muzaffarpur district have someone to look up to - Dr. Sangita Agarwal, a visually impaired teacher who teaches them, free of cost.

Some 65 boys and girls, 40 of whom are visually impaired, are part of Dr. Sangita's extended family.

Blind People Help Scientists Resolve Migraine Mystery
A discovery among blind people has helped scientists resolve a mystery why light can make a migraine go from headache to head-splitter, according to a study published on Sunday.

The 39-year-old, a PhD and a gold medallist of the Delhi University, is a senior lecturer in Sanskrit at a college here and runs a school-cum-rehabilitation centre 'Shubham', for the physically challenged from the lower income group.

Shubham was started in 1993 with only two students, which now has students coming not just from Muzaffarpur but also Sitamarhi and Darbhanga in Bihar and even from Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh.

Dr. Sangita said that she spends a large part of her day here.

Bone Marrow Nerve Damage Linked to Blindness-causing Diabetic Complication
Researchers say, bone marrow nerve damage has been found to play a crucial role in blindness-causing complications in diabetics.

"After spending 2-3 hours in the college I spend most of my time here with the children. Besides this, there is a small office in my home, I look at the administrative work form my home. Moreover, if financial assistance is required, we provide that as well." she added.

She has also donated approximately 20,415 square feet of land for the purpose.

Global Childhood Blindness Strategy Should be Reassessed: Experts
Patterns of childhood blindness have been changing and there is a need to reassess their strategies says a team of eye specialists from India, Malawi, and Tanzania.

Babloo Kumar, a blind student, said that not he not only wants to study but also wants to impart the education.

"I study all the subjects like Hindi, English and Maths. I want such an education where not only I study myself but also teach others," said Babloo Kumar.

Molecular Pathway That Plays A Role In Diabetes-Associated Blindness Discovered
The University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, Oklahoma City, scientists have identified a molecular pathway that appears to play a vital role in diabetes associated blindness.

According to reports, India has world's largest blind population.
