Honesty, Humility Score Higher

Honesty and humility were the most important qualities in an excelling job performance, according to a new study carried out at Baylor University. Lead author Wade Rowatt, an associate professor of psychology and neuroscience at Baylor University commented, “This study shows that those who possess the combination of honesty and humility have better job performance.”

269 employees in 25 different companies across 20 states in the US who provide health care for challenging clients were involved in the study. Supervisors evaluated the performance of each employee on 35 different skills, on a rating scale. The kind of customer they looked after was also considered.

The study brought out the fact that occupations and organisations that require special attention and care for products or clients needed primarily honest and humble people. The study’s co-author Megan Johnson adds, “Narcissists, on the other hand, who generally lack humility and are exploitative and selfish, would probably be better at jobs that require self-promotion.”

The conclusion drawn was that people, who were honest and humble normally were modest, were more sincere, were fair in their dealings and were not greedy.
