  • November is observed as the stomach cancer awareness month
  • Increased understanding and awareness of stomach cancer will result in earlier diagnosis. It would help to increase long-term survival rates
November is the perfect time to spread awareness about stomach cancer because it is a month when people enjoy eating. During the holidays, attention is given to food, nourishment, and family. Living without a stomach can be difficult for patients with stomach cancer.
The first official U.S. Stomach Cancer Awareness Month was promoted and commemorated by NSFC in 2010. Thanksgiving Day will be observed as National Family History Day as part of the Surgeon General's commitment to raising awareness of the value of knowing one's hereditary risks for illness, which are unquestionably one of the risk factors for stomach cancer.

Goals for Stomach Cancer Awareness Month

1. Educate the public about stomach cancer, especially its risk factors, prevention, and early diagnosis, and support those efforts.
2. Recognize the requirement for more funding and study into the early detection and treatment of stomach cancer.
3. Raise money for research into stomach cancer.
4. Raise public awareness of potential stomach cancer treatments, and encourages individuals, interested groups, and organizations to observe and support Stomach Cancer Awareness Month through appropriate programs and activities.
5. Empower everyone by combining the compassion of those affected by stomach cancer worldwide.

Supporters believe that increased understanding and awareness will result in the earlier discovery of stomach cancer, which would directly increase long-term survival rates. A cure for this fatal disease will eventually be found thanks to funds raised for stomach cancer research, which will lead to better detection, therapies, increased survival rates, and other benefits.

History of Stomach Cancer Awareness Month

No Stomach For Cancer (NSFC) decided to set aside a month to raise awareness of this disease after realizing how important it is to do so.

S. Res. 655, a resolution designating November as the inaugural National Stomach Cancer Awareness Month in the United States, was the outcome of the NSFC's advocacy and collaboration with the U.S. Senate in 2010.

In 2011, organizations started seeking informational materials and including the 'month' on awareness calendars as awareness of stomach cancer increased. By organizing neighborhood events that garnered awareness and money, more individuals took part.

By 2012, individuals from all over the world were looking for events to attend nearby. In response, the world's first-ever No Stomach for Cancer Walk was organized to increase awareness of stomach cancer. With participants from 35 U.S. states and 10 other countries, participation was overwhelming.

The National Stomach Cancer Foundation (NSFC) remained dedicated to raising awareness and observing November as Stomach Cancer Awareness Month despite subsequent difficulties in securing formal designations for the month.
