
Just over 10 percent of Britons have read a book over the last year, while only one in five know that Hamlet was written by William Shakespeare, a new survey reveals.
James Endersby, managing director of Opinium Research, which conducted the poll, said that for many people reading has become a luxury and something they cannot commit a great deal of time to.
Reasons for failing to take classic literature beyond the school gates include lack of time and preferring to watch film versions of books.
Nearly half of us do it just before we go to sleep.
