Experts Call For Caution In Heralding the 'Menopause Predicting Test'

The invention, which is being touted as 'revolutionary' may be so, but in limitations.

Last night experts sounded a caution over the test and said that mothers who wanted to delay starting a family, would not know if their fertility levels had fallen or not.

They warned that although the average age for the menopause is 51, fertility begins to decline rapidly at 35 and most women struggle to have children many years before their 50th birthday.

The test could be particularly useful for women who are at risk of going through the menopause early.

But the test will not reveal if a woman has other fertility problems.

According to the scientists who created the test, it can pin the menopause date down to within four months, thus helping women decide when they would like to start a family.
