Paramedics believed that the amount of beer the man had consumed probably kept him alive.
Matt Stickels, coastguard deputy station manager, had dragged the second man to safety and said that they were extremely cold as they were in water for nearly 45 minutes.
He added that the man had eight cans of beer and according to the paramedics, it had probably kept him alive as his body had slowed down so much that it might have helped him.
