Diet Soda Does Not Cause Diabetes
Contrary to the popular belief Harvard researchers have claimed that moderate consumption of diet soda and other artificially sweetened beverages may not raise your chances of developing diabetes. They found that the exact link between drinking diet soda and diabetes were common factors like obesity, as generally overweight people who are at a predisposed risk of diabetes tend to opt for diet drinks.
Following a study of 40,000 men for about 20-years they have concluded that people who drank the most sugar-sweetened drinks (about 1-serving per day) were 16% more likely to be diagnosed with diabetes. Substituting those beverages with their diet versions was a safer and healthier alternative.

The study also found that drinking coffee daily lowered the risk of diabetes. The report is published in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.
