Cholera Outbreak in Tanzania Kills Four
Local health officials have revealed that a fresh outbreak of cholera in northern Tanzania has killed four people over the past week.

Regional medical officer Stephen Kebwe said the four died last week in Tarime district, which borders Kenya.

"We have deployed medical personnel and medicines to the area since the outbreak was reported some three weeks ago," he said.

Kebwe said that 180 cases had been reported up to Wednesday in the Tarime and Rorya districts and that 16 patients were still hospitalised.

The official said the government's awareness campaigns in the north had been intensified and added that "several people in Tarime had been arrested and taken to court for violating health regulations."

Several people died of cholera in the east African nation earlier this year.
