A 10-year old boy in England who was missing a part of his ear has been fitted with a new one after doctors in Kent sculpted the ear from his rib.
Sean Wingrove-Smith suffered from a rare form of congenital defect known as Goldenhar Syndrome which prevents ears, lips or nose from developing fully in the womb. While Sean had no problems with this defect, he was subjected to taunts from bullies.
He then underwent a number of surgeries at the Great Ormond Street Hospital where the doctors harvested cartilage from his rib and sculpted a new ear, though he is still deaf. Commenting on his surgery, Sean said that it was fun to go to school looking like Smurf.
