The US Food and Drug Administration has announced that it has approved a heart pump to be used in children suffering from heart failure, providing an important option for those who are too small to receive implants commonly used in adults. The FDA said that the Berlin Heart pump will be used in children who have suffered from a heart failure and are waiting for a transplant.
The FDA added that the pump will save many lives after revealing that more than a quarter of all children waiting for a transplant die before they are able to undergo surgery.
