Chinese Products Slammed Once More

It’s another bad day for the Chinese food industry. Latest in the docks are ginger supplies sold across chain stores in California and believed to be contaminated with toxic pesticides.

The California Department of Public Health is warning American consumers not to eat ginger imported from China and distributed by chain stores, such as Albertson’s and Save Mart stores across Northern California.

The importers are said to be Christopher Ranch of Gilroy and Modern Trading Inc., Alhambra.

It was routine examinations by inspectors with the state Department of Pesticide Regulation that detected the presence of aldicarb sulfoxide, which banned for use on ginger, in California.

Yet, as of now the department has received no reports of illness from customers who ate the contaminated ginger.

Signs of aldicarb poisoning in humans usually appear within the first hour after exposure. They include flu-like symptoms such as nausea, headache and blurred vision. They disappear with 5 to 6 hours.

Experts say that higher levels of poisoning can cause dizziness, excessive sweating and salivation, vomiting, diarrhea, breathing problems, and muscle stiffness and twitching.

In addition to the recall of these products, the U.S Food and Drug Administration is warning all consumers to shun any form of Chinese root ginger imports.
