The World Cancer Research Fund (WCRF) has analyzed that despite rising food prices, five portions of fruit and vegetables can be bought for under 50p. And five servings of frozen fruit and vegetables can be bought for even less money. They suggested shopping around for seasonal products. Previous research has shown that eating plenty of fruits and vegetables of different varieties is likely to reduce the risk of cancer.
Head of education for the WCRF, Kate Mendoza said, "We understand that rising food prices mean many people feel they have little option but to buy fewer fruits and vegetables. It is possible to buy plenty of fruits and vegetables on the tightest of budgets. Even if you were to only buy fresh produce, there are many where a portion is available for under 10p. People who eat plenty of fruits and vegetables are also less likely to be overweight, which is an important cancer risk factor."
