£200m Medical Base to Be Set Up in UK

by Rajashri on Jul 17 2008 2:11 PM

The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has announced that it will be setting up a new £200m defences medical base to serve the whole of the UK. The base will be built at Staffordshire barracks and should be operational by 2010.

Whittington Barracks in Lichfield will be the exact location of the base. Medical professional across the UK will be trained here.

"There are still a number of hurdles to be overcome as the project will take up to six years to complete in an unhealthy economic climate," said Lichfield MP Michael Fabricant. "This may impede the completion of the building programme. I will continue to monitor the process closely."

The bulk of the funds will be used to construct new accommodation, offices, and training facilities at the site.
