Prevention of Listeriosis

Listeria infection or listeriosis is a food borne illness caused by eating food contaminated with the bacterium, Listeria monocytogenes. An estimated 1600 people in the United States get listeriosis each year. Around 260 of those infected individuals succumb to the infection. The infection is more severe in the case of newborn babies, children, pregnant women and in individuals whose immunity is compromised.
