Jordan: The Kingdom Untouched By Avian Flu

The Minister of Agriculture Akef Zu'bi of Jordan said that the kingdom was untouched by the avian flu disease.

He said that this was due to the joint effort of both the public and the government. He said that there is no fear of a bird flu outbreak in the country.

The minister made the remarks during a banquet held by the Jordanian Veterinary Association.

In that occasion to celebrate this great achievement the people were served chicken as the main course.

The banquet was attended by several media representatives and members of professional associations.

Jordan government took a lot of precautionary measures such as the ban on the import of chicken and poultry products, decorative feathers and pet birds.

The Agriculture Ministry also formed teams to monitor poultry farms, bird shops and areas frequented by migratory birds.

Apart from these check posts were set up to monitor wetlands near the country's nine dams. All these measures yielded benefit and the country is free from bird flu.
