More number of women are taking to smoking, and statistics show that nearly 12% of the women all over the world smoke. This figure is also expected to rise to 20 %. The figures regarding the number of male smokers are about 48 per cent, but the trend is showing a decline.

Greaves, executive director of the British Columbia Center of Excellence for Women's Health, expressed that advertisements portrayed on billboards display women with cigarettes, the underlying message that it is hip and happening to smoke, and an encouragement for more women to smoke.

It is extremely crucial to evolve strategies to disseminate the right information about the risks of cancer, which will prevent many men and women from smoking.
