Dog Trained to Sniff Out Nuts and Help Owner Avoid Allergies
A four-year-old poodle has become the first dog to be trained to sniff out nuts and help his owner in her fight against her allergy.
Yasmine Tornblad, 30, suffers from severe allergic reaction when she comes in contact with nuts and goes into anaphylactic shock from just smelling the nuts. She has rushed to hospitals on 15 different occasions over the last eight years due to her allergy but is now able to lead some semblance of normal life thanks to the poodle, Nano, who accompanies her everywhere.

Nano has been trained by the charity organization Medical Detection Dogs, based in Milton Keynes, and can sniff out the smell of nuts in both food and the environment. Ms Tornbald said that having the poodle around has removed a major worry from her life.

“It has given me a bit of independence back so I’m not so worried about eating at friend’s houses or going on business trips anymore. 'Normally when I stay at a hotel I start by cleaning out the room to be sure there is no contamination - now I have Nano to double-check. I can’t imagine life without him now”, she said.
