Woman Takes Manufacturer of Birth Control Pills to Court

by Savitha C Muppala on Feb 23 2013 1:35 PM

A thirty-three year old woman from Kansas City, MO, has been completely let down by the birth control pills she took, which resulted in an unwanted pregnancy.

She is all set to take legal action on the pharmaceutical company that manufactured the birth control pills.

In 2011, Shanta Russel, found she was pregnant. She also got a recall notice from Qualitest Pharmaceuticals, who said the pills were placed in the wrong order, defeating the very purpose of birth control pills.

Shanta gave birth to a baby girl in 2012. Obviously, she was not mentally prepared for the pregnancy. She has now filed a case on February 6th against Qualitest and its parent corporation, who looked into the packaging the pills.

She has asked for reimbursement of health care costs and the emotional turmoil of an unwanted and unprepared pregnancy. "I was devastated. I questioned myself. After all these years, how could this happen? Of course I was angry. There was nothing I did that was a mistake", said Shanta.
