Seven million people have signed up for the new insurance plans under President Barack Obama's health care law said the White House confirming it had reached its sign up target.

Despite a blotched rollout, by 1st January 2014, more than 2 million people had signed up for private health insurance under the Affordable Care Act through President Barack Obama's signature reform.
Confirmation of the target reached comes as a huge relief to the White House as the launch of the new healthcare plan, hobbled by technical snags, was casting serious doubt if the government could reach its seven million target by the end of March this year.
