A research team from Sweden had been able to cure people suffering from hay fever by teaching them self-hypnosis. The researchers believe that hypnosis may be a powerful tool for curing allergic reactions. 79 patients of an average age of 34 yrs with moderate to sever allergic rhinitis from grass or pollen were taken in the study. All these people have been sufferers of hay fever for more than two years. Random parallel group was used as control for the study that went on for two years.

The researchers had taught them self-hypnosis for about two to five sessions on an average along with continuous anti allergic treatment. 66 patients had completed one session and 52 people had taken two sessions.

The results showed that patients who had learned self-hypnosis had significant improvements in the first year afterwards. In the second year the people who had learned self-hypnosis had also had significant improvement as well. A machine was used to measure how forcefully the patients could exhale through their nose. Hypnosis was seen as an intervention that helped the people to have improved nasal airflow, even under the exposure to allergens.
