Beware of Fatty Liver Disease

by Medindia Content Team on Jan 12 2007 3:12 PM

Consuming rich food and lack of exercise is lethal for the liver, much more than booze, researchers say. Termed as fatty liver disease, it is characterized by collection of fat around the liver. The disease debilitates the liver and could be a cause of scarring or cirrhosis or even cancer of the liver.

According to researchers, sedentary habits is the main culprit. The clue to maintaining a healthy liver is to engage in enough physical exercise and eat in moderation. The effect of today’s inactive lifestyle is showing on the children, as they are coming down with diseases which were thought to be the lot of adults.

But the silver lining is that it is not a permanent condition, if it is detected in time and appropriate measures are taken. But researchers stress that prevention is the key. If the liver is impaired beyond repair, the condition may be serious and irreversible.
