Rajasthan Friday banned the sale and consumption of soft drinks in educational institutions in the state.

"We have imposed a ban on soft drinks in all educational intuitions in the state from Friday," Rajasthan Education Minister Ghanshyam Tiwari told IANS here.

The decision applies to 100,000 government and private institutes where over 15 million students study.

He said the ban would continue till it is proved that the contents in the soft drinks are not harmful to health.

Despite court orders, cola companies have still not started to write the contents on the bottles, Tiwari said.

A Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) report Wednesday revealed that the pesticide residue in soft drinks from the Coke and Pepsi brands continued to be way above the permissible limit.
