Stress reduces your immunity- startling but true!!!!!

by Medindia Content Team on Jan 1 2001 12:00 AM

In a startling expose, new research into how our immunity works says stress reduces our immunity and makes us more vulnerable to diseases. For long we have agreed that stress is bad for our health but this aspect of stress decreasing our immune status is sure to cause a lot of concern.

With the advent of HIV/AIDS and other immune-disorder related conditions claming many victims every day, the new buzzword is immunity and how we can live healthy without compromising on our own inbuilt lines of defence.

Especially when HIV and other immune suppressing conditions (generally following viral infections) already compromise the immunity of a person, stress can take a heavy toll on a person's health. This has formed the basis of the latest research in the United States on how stress makes a person more immuno compromised.

In old people and in very young individuals the immune system is not ideally prepared to take on the disease causing organisms in full force. Added to this if the person is under stress the condition gets worse, with the person becoming more susceptible to even very common infections.

So for those real health freaks who are worried about their health status, should be the new threat. Fight stress and be more immune from all infections!
