Public Health Must be Taken Care of by Politicians

The Royal Society of Public Health and UK Faculty of Public Health have urged politicians to tackle public health on an emergency basis. They have called for a ban on smoking in cars with children and also want the government with free school meals for under 16s.

"We are facing unprecedented challenges to public health," said Professor Richard Parish, chief executive of the Royal Society for Public Health. He added that the need of the hour was political will rather than resources.

Health Hazards of Smoking Cigarettes
Smoking causes many diseases and affects the overall health of smokers.

Professor Alan Maryon-Davis, president of the UK Faculty of Public Health, agreed, "Preventing ill-health with firm policies such as the smoking ban in cars has got to be right up there at the top of the next government's agenda," he added. "Any party that claims to be the party of the NHS has to commit to promoting and protecting health as well as healthcare."

In a joint statement, the leading public health doctors drawn from the Royal Society of Public Health and UK Faculty of Public Health also said that the government must make chlamydia tests compulsory for all new students.
