Egg is God’s natural gift to conquer hunger, food insecurity and malnutrition. It contains naturally occurring Vitamin D, useful for calcium and phosphorus absorption.
World Egg Day was observed on October 9, the Poultry Association of Nigeria (PAN) highlighted the benefits of eggs and urged to consume more eggs. The theme of the World Egg Day is” Falling In Love With Eggs.”
To mark the event, Dr Ayoola Oduntan, president of the association, spoke on the theme “Benefits of an egg a day for the Nigerian child,” identified egg as God’s natural gift to conquer hunger, food insecurity and malnutrition.
Oduntan said “Egg contains naturally occurring Vitamin D, useful for calcium and phosphorus absorption for strong bones and teeth. Egg contains other very important nutrients such as selenium, vitamin A and E, folate, riboflavin, choline and lutein.”
“Eggs are the best follow up to breast milk in children as it contains the richest mix of essential amino acids. It contains the perfect combination of protein, 12 vitamins and 12 minerals,” he explained.
