More than 800 people were injured in various parts of Lucknow following Holi revelry with 25 people admitted to trauma center and whose condition is reported to be serious. According to Chief Medical Superintendent at the Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Civil Hospital, Dr E U Siddiqui, more than 330 people were brought to the hospital. Apart from 32 patients, the rest were given first aid and sent back home.
Around 170 patients had suffered some form of head or orthopaedic injuries with the condition of around 25 patients said to be serious. The medical superintendent of the hospital’s trauma center, Dr Narsingh Verma said that the injuries showed signs of clear intent.
“The nature of injuries in some cases suggests that the individuals were targeted. There could be some people trying to settle old scores. For example, a youth had a deep wound on the head inflicted by a hard blunt object”, he said.
