A survey conducted by Age concern has indicated that nurses do not have the time to attend to elderly patients, thus endangering the lives of the senior lot. Out of 500 nurses who participated in the survey, nine out of ten were candid about having little time for the elderly.
Age Concern survey has revealed that almost 60% of these patients are malnourished due to lack of personal attention. It was also observed that patients who are above 80 yrs of age were five times prone to malnutrition than the fifties age group. The survey also established that nourishment is an important factor that determines - length of hospital stay of a patient, post surgery complications, and mortality rates.
