Nearly 30,000 Cuban doctors, dentists, nurses and technicians are providing healthcare to the poor through a Venezuelan government-sponsored program, officials here said Wednesday.
13,020 doctors, 2,938 dentists, 4,170 nurses and 9,868 health technicians from Cuba participate in the Barrio Adentro work program, Venezuelan Health Minister Jesus Mantilla told reporters.

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez launched the Barrio Adentro program as a joint Cuban-Venezuelan initiative in 2003.
Human rights organization PROVEA said Tuesday however that Cuban cooperation in the program has declined and that only around 8,000 health professionals from Cuba work in Venezuela.
