A 28-year old mother of three-day old conjoined twins is yet to see her babies as she continues to recover both physically and mentally from the delivery.
Urmila Sharma gave birth to the twins at the Cygnus JK Hindu Hospital in Sonipat, Haryana, on Wednesday. The babies had two necks, two heads, two spines and two esophagi and trachea but had just one heart and stomach.
They have been shifted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences Hospital (AIIMS), in Delhi where doctors are reaching out to others in their field in order to come up with a plan on how to separate them and make sure that both of them live. The babies' father, Subhash Sharma is a bicycle factory worker and said that everything is now in God's and the doctors hands.
Dr Shikha Malik, who delivered the babies, said that while they are doing remarkably well at the present, their future looks bleak. "So far they are doing remarkably well. It is a gift that they have come this far. We can only pray that there is a future for them. We are trying all we can to help them and we're speaking to experts from all over the world to see if there's any chance of surgery. But it is looking unlikely at the moment", Dr Malik said.
