Kerala Ayurveda Centre Caters to Patients Not Tourists

The Arya Vaidya Sala in Kerala is one of the few ayurvedic centers in the country that continues to cater to patients and not tourists. P.M. Varier, chief superintendent of the famed Kottakkal Hospital said that the theme of the center is treatment and not entertainment.

"We are not into providing ayurveda packages as offered by various resorts in the state. We treat a patient depending on the physical and mental condition. We offer time-tested treatment protocols using our own medicines," said Varier. Some of the conditions that are treated at the center include paralysis, rheumatism, arthritis, spondylosis and other psychosomatic diseases.

"To get admitted as an in-patient, the patient has to come to our out-patient department first and they are given a time to come back. Today the waiting period for undergoing our in-patient treatment is four months under normal circumstances," Varier revealed.

Arya Vaidya Sala now runs four centers in the country and has 22 centers that offer outpatient services. Furthermore 1,200 dealers sell the 530 medicines that are manufactured in its factories.
