India's frozen egg cell baby was born in Chennai on Wednesday in what is yet another breakthrough for methods of artificial reproduction in the country.

India's frozen egg cell baby was born in Chennai on Wednesday in what is yet another breakthrough for methods of artificial reproduction in the country.

Kamal Selvaraj, a doctor from GG Hospital, Chennai said, " If a woman is suffering from cancer then she can preserve her egg cell before going in for chemotherapy and can use it once she is recovered from her cancer. Chemotherapy can kill egg cells."

The procedure allows a woman to freeze her eggs so they can be fertilized later. The baby born in India using this procedure weighs 2.5 kilos and is healthy.
