Researchers at Institute of Bioinformatics (Bangalore) had made a study of the genomic sequence of human X chromosome with its transcriptome and proteome sequences as well.
The IOB analysis showed that the human X chromosome has a gene density less than other chromosomes with 43 novel protein-coding regions and 696 known genes. The researchers have been able to identify and find out the detail of pseudogenes on X chromosome. The study found 652 pseudogenes of which 26 had proof of transcription. This happened when the researchers did a detailed study of the pseudogenes as a main segment of the study.The study also did a widespread analysis of the protein sequences, and post-translational modifications. The results were taken into the Human Protein Reference Database developed indigenously by the institute.
The results of the study are published in the April issue of Nature Genetics. The study was lead by Akhilesh Pandey who had established the Institute of Bioinformatics in Bangalore in 2002, along with a team of researchers who had worked in collaboration with Johns Hopkins University of USA.
