GERDx : Chennai’s New GERD Solution
Chennai welcomes a revolutionary surgical solution for Gastroenterology with the introduction of the GERD X equipment at MedIndia Hospital. Dr. Narayanasamy highlights the transformative changes in gastroenterology and hepatology, with a decline in conditions like peptic ulcers and communicable diseases while witnessing increased focus on treating Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C.
Dr. Narayanasamy, who commissioned the Germany-made equipment GERD X, at the launch of a new equipment by MedIndia Hospital, said: “The field of gastroenterology and hepatology had changed dramatically with reference to diagnosis, disease burden and profile. Conditions such as peptic ulcers and communicable diseases had declined while more specialists were treating Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C.”

GERD and GERDx

It has been shown that patients with chronic Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) who cannot control their symptoms with medication, or those who cannot administer long-term medication, may benefit from the GERDX-System's endoscopic partial thickness plication (eFTP) (1 Trusted Source

).

By being less invasive, having fewer adverse effects, and allowing future treatment options, the GERDX-System bridges the treatment gap between medications and more invasive surgical solutions.

The GERDx system (G-SURG GmbH, Seeon-Seebruck, Germany) was used to accomplish an endoscopic full-thickness plication. The GERDx device, which was developed by a company that acquired the Plicator technology, uses hydraulic components for control.

Dr. Narayanasamy remembered that while previously these disorders were not treated in government hospitals, today treatment is available even at primary health facilities.

The prevalence of lifestyle disorders like Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, and inflammatory bowel syndrome is rising, according to gastroenterologists. Globalization and several environmental factors may be to blame for this. Fortunately, we can treat them with current medical technologies.

Dr. Narayanasamy praised T.S. Chandrasekar, a gastroenterologist and the creator of MedIndia, for his work in support of medical education initiatives throughout the State. A less invasive option to laparoscopic therapy was proposed at the CME on treating gastro esophageal reflux disorder (GERD) on Sunday. The brand-new GERD-X therapy is a simple procedure that may be repeated as necessary. In comparison to surgery, it is less expensive, according to Dr. Chandrasekar.
