Do Not Buy Contact Lenses from Non-registered Optometrists

Trading standard officers in Britain have warned the public from buying contact lenses from non-registered optometrists, stating that improper usage of the lenses could lead to blindness. With a number of celebrities and cult film series, such as the Twilight saga, making use of contact lenses to bring about unique eye color, the use of contact lenses have become very popular among the population.

However medical experts have now warned that buying them from non-registered optometrists or using them incorrectly can cause infection or corneal ulcers and could also lead to blindness in extreme cases.

“I would strongly urge that people only buy lenses from a legal source, have them fitted by a professional and follow all advice about how to wear and look after the lenses. Failure to do so may cause serious eye problems”, the cabinet portfolio holder for rural issues and cultural services, Councillor Jane Evison said.
