The Tamil Nadu state government in association with Rotary International has launched a statewide blood donation drive with the emphasis on youth. R. Sriram, who is Rotary’s district chairman for Blood and Organ Donation, said that most of the venues will be in colleges since the emphasis of the donation drive will be on youth. The drive is expected to collect at least 50,000 units of blood on a single day with Sriram stating that the blood will save lives of more than 45,000 people.
“We are catching the young. Most of the venues are going to be the colleges. So this creates the peer pressure among students, when his friend is giving blood, he also feels that he will donate blood. If not today next month, he will come and say I will also donate blood”, he said.
