Indian superstar Amitabh Bachchan, who is currently in Britain as part of his worldwide star- studded 'Unforgettable Tour', took a diabetes test in Leicester to support the cause of health awareness.
As soon as he took the test on Saturday at the Silver Star Appeal, a diabetes charity begun by British MP Keith Vaz, the star stepped out to wave to about a 1000 of his screaming fans who had gathered to get a glimpse of their favorite hero.
"He's in the clear and very happy about it," Vaz announced to the crowd. "We gave him a self-testing kit to take away," he added.
The Bollywood actor said it was his serious accident in the sets of the film "Coolie" that sensitized him to the need for supporting health causes.
About 22 million in the UK have diabetes and another 750,000 may be living with the condition without knowing it because they haven't taken a diabetes test.
Leicester has a large Indian-origin community and it is estimated that in 2010, some 66,000 people in Leicester will be living with diabetes, without knowing it.
