Government compensation has been awarded to the mother of a teenager who suffered severe brain damage by the MMR vaccine.
18-year-old Robert Fletcher suffered an epileptic fit just 10 days after he received the vaccine. At that time he was 13 months old. Last week a medical assessment panel awarded £90,000 payout to his mother Jackie.

"I feel vindicated by it because over the years I've been labelled anti-vaccine and a scaremonger and all sorts of things, when all I've been trying to do is highlight what's happened to my son, to help safeguard other parents' children," Jackie said. "What I'm hoping now is that other parents whose children have suffered a similar reaction to Robert can maybe go down the same route that we've gone down to achieve justice for their children."

The family had applied for compensation through the Government's Vaccine Damage Payment Scheme. Today Robert is not autistic, but he is unable to talk, stand unaided or feed himself and continues to suffer from epileptic fits.
