A word of Caution

The following class of people should avoid EPO:

  1. Pregnant and nursing mothers
  2. People with a history of partial complex seizure disorders, such as temporal lobe epilepsy.
  3. Schizophrenics who are being treated with certain neuroleptic drugs, such as aliphatic phenothiazines (e. g., chlorpromazine), which may lower seizure threshold.
  4. Due to the possible antithrombotic activity of EPO, those with hemophilia or other hemorrhagic diatheses.
