Types of tobacco
Many kinds of tobacco are grown in the world, with a variety of uses. The types of tobacco could vary depending on the tobacco classes in various countries, however manipulation of nitrogen fertilization, plant density, time and height of topping, harvesting and curing are used to favorably influence the usability of the cured leaves for specific products. A few of the most common ones are listed below.
- Virginia - Virginia is high in sugar and low in oils. The color of the leaves range from bright lemon yellow to medium brown, with the lighter colors being spicier in flavor, and the darker colored leaves having a more deeper and complex taste.
Burley - It is high in oil, and low in sugar and has a nutty type of flavor.
- Carolina - It is similar to the Virginia variety, but not as rich in flavor.
- Maryland - It is a type of neutral tobacco with a mild flavor.
- Orientals or Turkish - This is actually a rather broad category of different tobaccos. They are usually high in sugar, and rather fragrant.
