Witchcraft - Celluloid Witches

Celluloid Witches

Onscreen witches are very popular like the American television sitcom (situation comedy) Bewitched, broadcast on ABC in the 1960s - 1970s. Remakes include the Hollywood movie Bewitched, starring Nicole Kidman playing the pretty witch in love with a mortal, Sony Entertainment Television’s Meri Biwi Wonderful and the Japanese remake Oku-sama wa majo (My wife is a witch).

Popular American TV sitcoms like I dream of Jeannie, The Munsters, The Ghost and Mrs. Muir, The Addam’s Family, Sabrina, the Teenage Witch, (adapted from Archie comics) garnered international attention for the new brand of witchcraft. The Craft and Harry Porter proved that Hollywood has moved away from the Wizard of Oz days to currently acclaiming witchcraft as chic and fashionable.
