Cigarette smoking is the main risk factor for lung cancer and accounts for about 90% of lung cancer cases. Cigarette smoke which is full of carcinogens (cancer causing substances) causes cells to act abnormally and eventually cancer may develop. The risk of lung cancer is less in people who quit smoking. Stopping smoking has other benefits like gives you more energy, slows ageing process, helps live longer.
