Glossary

Hypertension: Increase in blood pressure.

Hypokalemia: Pathologically reduced blood levels of potassium.

Alkalosis: Dangerously decreased acidity of the blood, which can be caused by high altitudes, hyperventilation, and excessive vomiting.

CT scan: A diagnostic imaging technique in which a computer reads x-rays to create a three-dimensional map of soft tissue or bone.
