It is a well analyzes fact that obesity causes heart problems, increased blood pressure and cancer but its relation to blindness is something people are not aware off.

The researchers had reviewed around 20 studies with more than thousand patients across the world before finalizing that obesity does cause eye disorders.

Obesity is associated with four main eye problems and they are Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) - burling of the sharp central vision leading to difficulty in reading and makes it difficult to analyze the finer details.

Cataracts - affects the lens and thereby the vision.

Glaucoma - damages the optic nerve of the eye causes blindness.

Diabetic retinopathy - due to diabetes blood vessels in the retina are damaged.

The researchers said that people are not aware of the relationship between obesity and eye disorders. The progress of these ocular problems is quicker in obese people.

The common mechanism or mode of action of all these diseases except Cataract is that the vascular system is affected and excess pressure causes pulmonary problem due to this blood vessels of the eye are affected leading to blindness.

But in the case of Cataract, it is a disease of the lens and the researcher says that obese people are at a very risk of developing gout in which the development of Cataract is common.

In conclusion they said that the study is aimed at creating awareness among the public that obesity leads to blindness and that the commoner should be aware of its risk factors.
