Severe Acute respiratory Syndrome (SARS)

This respiratory diesease that can be fatal and threatens to become an epidemic.

At present according to WHO 1485 cases have been identified worldwide with more than 50 reported deaths mostly in Asia. More dramatically the Italian doctor who discovered this illness recently succumbed to the disease in Thailand. Dr.Carlo Urbani (46) a an expert on communicable diseases woking for WHO was the first to identify Severe Acute respiratory Syndrome (SARS) in an American businessman in Hanoi. The disease apparently spreads due to international travel. Scientist are still looking t the cause and treatment for the disease. At present Hongkong seems to be the most affected area in the world. In Hongkong 425 people have been infected and 11 have died. There a small panic spreading in Hongknog with people wearing surgical masks oer avoiding going outdoors.
