C-Sections to be Banned on NHS as Part of Cost-Cutting Measures

The NHS in Britain has implemented a cost-cutting measure by refusing to conduct caesarean operations unless a natural birth is harmful for the mother and the baby.

More than 25 percent of newly born babies in Britain are the result of caesarean operations even though the World Health Organization has recommended that it should be below 15 percent for every country.

The NHS is hoping to save £5.6million by cutting down on the number of caesarean operations performed every year.

NHS Alliance’s chairman, Dr Michael Dixon said that such a step is necessary in order to focus spending on necessary areas such as cancer and heart disease. “We are going to need to balance all sorts of things in future, from cancer to heart disease. When it comes to treatments we may need to spend less on, that may be one”, he said.
